One of tiny house community's residents describes his radical downsizing process. Check out an excerpt from his blog post below, or click on the image to read the full entry: Excerpt from The Company Store on Wheels: "Radical Downsizing (or 'Connect the Dots, la-la-la... ')" "The first tiny house I walked into was my own. It really took was one YouTube video. I knew I could do it. Live tiny. Navy life aboard ship is tight, small and full of creative solutions to maximize space. I also lived in NYC in a 200 sq. ft. studio. I've always been a minimalist, which was handy in my nomadic 20’s. It wasn't until my 30’s that I put down roots. I bought a cozy (read: small) 614 sq. ft. condo. Palaaaacial by NYC standards." (Read more...)

Cassie moved to Florida from Massachusetts in February 2015 just to live in a tiny house on wheels. Nestled in a grove of trees right on the lake, her THOW is located at the perfect setting for a free-spirit to live tiny. Cassie just started a blog about her new life in Florida. You can read an excerpt below: a leap of faith from "LIFE AS IS" by Cassie Okey dokey then, now that I've shaken off my insecurities of writing, it's time to write.
I guess I'll start with a brief explanation of how the heck this Massachusetts girl ended up in a THOW (tiny house on wheels) in smack dab downtown Orlando... The adventure started back in November of last year, when I finally built up enough courage to click, "book your flight". For $70 I had just purchased a one way ticket to Orlando, FL on February 9, 2015, my 21st birthday. I had no plan, no reason, and just enough money saved up. 10 weeks. I thought that was plenty of time to figure something out. (Read more...) Our sixth tiny house on wheels has arrived at Orlando Lakefront! With the two tiny houses in the park that are in foundations, we have eight tiny houses. Our THC is growing!More tiny houses are expected to arrive this summer, as new THers finish their builds. We also have current tiny housers that own their THOWs, who are planning to live at Orlando Lakefront. All have reserved their spaces ahead of time. To learn more about how to reserve a lot and legally park your THOW at Orlando Lakefront, see our FAQ page. Also, you can call 407.936.4094 to speak with Jeff, the onsite manager. Another THer parks her THOW at our THC! ![]() The Company Store says: "I'm happy to see that the park is realizing the DIYer spirit in which the tiny house social movement was founded. I just love the concept. With an all-white shell, it's like she's working with a "blank canvas" inside and out." We are excited that our new tiny houser chose to live and finish her THOW in the park. With her excitement and enthusiasm for the movement, she is going to make a great addition to our community. Welcome!
One of our community's THers has written a post on his blog "The Company Store on Wheels" (http://www.thecompanystoreonwheels.com/) about the tiny house social movement. Here's an excerpt: There’s something quintessentially American about the tiny house movement. I had the realization on Memorial Day, while sitting on my neighbor’s tiny patio. I was watching a tour boat slowly float by the park, with a small American flag on the stern. As the boat idled by, I thought of the tiny house social movement through the lens of the pioneer spirit. Is the tiny house movement opening a new American frontier? Are tiny houses a kind of manifest destiny in reverse? James moved from Colorado in February '15 just to park his tiny house "The Company Store" at Orlando Lakefront. Reminiscent of the 1880's miner cabins dotting the Rocky Mountains, James brought a piece of Colorado with him. He enjoys kayaking on the lake and relaxing in his TH. You can learn more about his adventures in THing at http://www.thecompanystoreonwheels.com/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/thecompanystoreonwheels. ![]() People join the tiny house movement for many reasons, but the most common themes seem to be economic security, environmental concerns and improving one's quality of life. Tiny housers living in Orlando Lakefront at College Park have joined the movement for at least one of the above reasons, if not all. Just like the houses we live in, our growing tiny home community is made up of folks of all shapes and sizes. We are diverse in age, gender, religion, creed, sexual orientation, political affiliation... the list goes on. BUT (<-- big but) we all have a similar mindset. And it's not a tiny one. The common thread of the tiny housers at Orlando Lakefront is that we share a philosophy of living intentionally. We only possess what we truly need, or value. The choices of what is a necessity and of worth is as individual as our homes. In fact, our tiny houses often reflect those choices in the "form follows function" relationship. Perhaps what is most exciting about fostering a community of tiny houses is that we are able to share our personal visions of living tiny. Our personal decisions are greeted by other community members with respect, enthusiasm and humor. (I mean, some of the choices I've made for my tiny life are absurd. My ridiculously large entertainment center comes to mind.) When tiny housers decide to form a community, I think something special happens. Maybe it's that it reminds me of a more idyllic time, when neighbors borrowed a cup of sugar. (Hey, it happened to me one morning when a neighbor asked me for cream for their coffee because they ran out.) Romanticized notions of "suburbia 2.0" aside, there is a connection to one another that feels like the memory of a grandparent's story about living in the "old" neighborhood. Whether you're homesteading, living in an eco-community, or in an RV park that is making a grassroots effort to transition into a "TH park," tiny communities will form reflecting their own functions and members' values. Tiny houses are a social movement, not a fad. We're here to stay, and so are the tiny housers who make them home. Author:

One of our community's THers has written a post about downsizing on her blog "Quittersnation." https://quittersnation.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/its-all-about-the-little-things-literally/ Here are some pics and captions from the post. Here are some of the beautiful items I got for my tiny home (all came from shops I follow on etsy or local businesses I am familiar with): Custom silverware – I only have (and need!) 3 spoons, 3 forks, and a small 4 knife set. New artwork/inspiration to hang on my tiny walls! ![]() I have SO many uses for mason jars… I use them as my drinking glasses, storage containers (even my q-tips are in a mason jar!), leftover food containers… The list just goes on! I love being able to reuse my jars. No plastic bottles in my house! Author:
